Marian Houser

CO-FOUNDER

Dr. Marian L. Houser is a professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University. She earned her BA in Communication at the University of Missouri, MA at Miami (Ohio) University, and PhD at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She is interested in a program of research that examines the intersections of interpersonal relationships and instructional communication—especially the dialogue that occurs between teachers and students in the classroom. She has developed and published scales in Learner Empowerment, Learning Indicators, and Classroom Engagement and these instruments are used throughout the communication, education, and psychology disciplines. Dr. Houser has published over 35 research studies in National, International, and Regional journals, delivered over 50 Conference presentations and, authored/edited two communication textbooks. She was the recipient of Texas State University’s President’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activities. Dr. Houser’s love for teaching and promoting student interest in research garnered her the Mariel M. Muir Excellence in Mentoring Award at Texas State University.
